Facilities

OU Multilingual Plaza is located on the fourth floor of Cybermedia Center.
There are study and consultation spaces for individuals and groups, which can be used in line with your needs.
Study-aid books (25 languages foreign language/Japanese), iPads, and CD players are available for use.
To use an iPad, contact the reception at the study space.
You can ask the staff for advice on learning methods, study materials, and tools.

Conversation Sessions (Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean)

  • You can enjoy one-on-one talk with our conversation partner for 20 minutes.
    (This is not a class or lesson, nor is it for the preparation for the specific language exams.)
  • Please prepare the topic(s) you want to talk about in advance.
  • Bookings for the next month’s sessions are open at the end of each month. In some cases, the number of sessions you can apply for may be limited. Please check the KOAN bulletin board for details.

Language Learning Portfolio Workshops

In this workshop, participants will develop their own learning plans and carry out self-directed learning through activities with their foreign language learning advisors and peers using the “Osaka University Language Learning Portfolio” (https://plaza.cme.osaka-u.ac.jp/learning/portfolio/). We hold “Foreign Language Learning Portfolio Workshop" for learners of foreign languages other than Japanese and "Japanese Language Learning Portfolio Workshop" for international students on an irregular basis. Please refer to “here” for the details.

Workshops and Events on Multiculturalism and Multilingualism

We hold a variety of workshops and events to deepen understanding of multiculturalism and multilingualism. The following are some of the workshops we have held in the past.
  • Let's enjoy China online!
  • Let's see the world through proverbs
  • On live tours (Henan Province in China and Zanzibar in Tanzania)
  • Holidays and Festivals around the World: Russia, Germany, China, Korea and Tanzania

Japanese Language Tutoring

  • You can have a  30-minute session with a graduate student tutor based on a manuscript submitted in advance. 
  • Graduate student tutor will help you improve your Japanese writing. Your tutor will give you advice on your papers, essays, or presentation scripts.
  • In the session, the tutor will help you improve your manuscript by discussing with you the purpose of your manuscript and the points you would like to have corrected. Please let the tutor know what kind of advice you want to get from her at the beginning of the session.
  • Maximum volume of papers for the proofreading is 5 pages (approx. 5000 characters) in A4 size. 
  • Please note that the tutor is not a teacher, therefore the tutoring session will not always result in a perfect manuscript.
  • Both face-to-face and online sessions are available as you wish (all sessions may be provided online only depending on the university’s new standards concerning university activities).
  • Reservation of the sessions are to be  announced through the KOAN bulletin board (for international students). You can check the vacancies at the form.

Japanese Language Learning Advising

  • This is a 40-minute one-on-one session with a language learning advisor. During the session, you will talk with your advisor about your learning goals, objectives, and materials to be used. Throughout the session, you will be able to proceed with a study plan that suits you. You can also ask for advice on materials and methods.
  • Both face-to-face and online sessions are available as you wish (all sessions may be provided online only depending on the university’s new standards concerning university activities).
  • Reservation of the sessions are to be  announced through the KOAN bulletin board (for international students). You can check the vacancies at the form.
