Charles Dickens, Nicholas Nickleby — Dialectal and non-standard spellings

研究資料について / About the dataset

本資料は、Dickens の Nicholas Nickleby に見られる方言・非標準的スペリング候補と、関連する話者とを結び付けた探索的な語形―話者ネットワークです。網羅的で確定的な調査結果ではありません。

This is a provisional, exploratory inventory of non-standard orthographic forms and speaker associations, not a definitive exhaustive census of every dialect form in the novel.

Text source: Project Gutenberg eBook #967, Nicholas Nickleby. See the eBook page for bibliographic and reuse information. The narrative text, the author's preface, and quotation marks should not be conflated when assigning speech.

アノテーション方針 / Annotation principles

What is counted?

候補は、たとえば loike, thot, coom といった音韻的異綴り、nowt のような地域語彙、o’ や wi’ のような短縮形、demmit のような人物固有の口癖を含みます。これらは言語学的に同一のカテゴリーではありません。

Routine contractions such as don't and I'll are not treated as dialect markers merely because they contain an apostrophe. Historic spelling variation, dialect lexis, and idiolectal spellings require separate interpretation.

研究利用上の留意点 / Limitations

語形一覧には、個別トークンと話者の対応が確定していない箇所があります。機械抽出、歴史的正書法の判定、引用の入れ子、話者交替などに由来する false positives / omissions を排除したものではありません。音声的な方言表記を定量比較する場合は、校訂版を特定し、直接話法を発話者ごとに再アノテートしてから発話語数による正規化を行ってください。
